Davy Condon excited over Magen’s Star ride

Irish jockey Davy Condon has admitted he can’t wait to ride Tommy Stack’s unbeaten raider Magen’s Star at next week’s Cheltenham festival.

The mare has won both starts over hurdles and the six-year-old looks like her front-running style could make her very hard to beat in either the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle of the David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle.

It hasn’t been decided which race she will run in yet but Condon is hoping for some rain ahead of her trip to Prestbury Park.

"She needs a bit of cut because she's a big strong mare and she hits the ground fairly hard. I'm sure it won't be that quick at Cheltenham, especially on the first day," Condon admitted.

"She's a front-runner and she goes really hard, it's just a question of if she finishes.  Two miles might be enough for her round there. She's had it really easy over here and it is bound to be a big test for her because you have to have a good horse to win over there.

"I've been lucky enough to win the Supreme and it would be nice to win another."
