Zarkandar impresses Jacob ahead of Triumph Hurdle

Darly Jacob believes that Zarkandar could be the horse to beat in the 2011 JCB Triumph Hurdle.

Paul Nicholls’ star landed the Adonis Hurdle at Kempton on Saturday and there were plenty of punters impressed with the youngster.

Jacob believes that the legendary trainer has a seriously talented horse on his hands and explained: "I was very impressed with him.

"He travelled and jumped and gave me a great ride. I was amazed how quickly he just picked up from the turn home to pick up the other horses and go away from them on that soft ground.

"He'd be better on better ground and I got to the front too soon because I wasn't expecting him to pick up as well as he did. I was delighted with that and he's got plenty of stamina, a good cruising speed, he has everything."

Meanwhile, Coral’s David Stevens commented:  "As a half brother to the brilliant Zarkava, a Cheltenham Festival win may not have been the initial aim when Zarkava was born, but he was most impressive at Kempton, and punters clearly believe he can emulate Soldatino's Adonis/Triumph double from twelve months ago.”
